Managing Media Embedding in VIDIZMO
VIDIZMO offers users the capability to embed a wide range of media types, including audio, videos, documents, images, playlists, and collections, into various web-based platforms using HTML embed codes. An additional layer of security is provided through single sign-on (SSO) integration, enhancing overall content security.
Within VIDIZMO, the Media Embedding feature encompasses two key aspects. Firstly, users can control content access by regulating media embedding on specific domains. VIDIZMO facilitates this control by enabling users to restrict or allow playback on designated domains, granting them comprehensive authority over the publication of a Portal's media.
Secondly, VIDIZMO provides users with the capability to customize media embedding configurations. This includes the option to define specific attributes such as width, height, or any other property during the configuration process. Additionally, users can configure attributes individually for each media file.
Prerequisites
- Before you begin, ensure that you are part of a group with the Embed Management feature permission enabled to manage embedding settings.
- To enable media embedding, ensure that the Media Embedding feature permission is activated within your group permissions settings.
Embedding Media on Other Platforms
To generate and copy HTML code to embed media on external platforms, you have two methods at your disposal: using the Media Manager or directly from the Media Playback page. However, before proceeding, it's crucial to ensure that your Portal settings have the Allow Embedding option enabled within the Media Embedding settings.
Allowing Media Embedding in the Portal
To enable media embedding in your Portal:
- Go to Admin > Control Panel.
- Within the navigation pane of the Control Panel, select Media Embedding.
- Select the Allow Embedding option to permit media embedding within your portal.
When a user activates the Allow Embedding option, a set of options becomes available for utilization in specific scenarios. These options cater to both restricting embedding on a particular domain and customizing media embedding configurations.
Restrict Embedding on a Specific Domain
To restrict media embedding on specific domains:
Enabling Embedding Options
-
Navigate to the Allow Embedding option and select the desired option:
- Allow All: Permits media embedding on all domains.
- Allow All, except: Enables media embedding on all domains except those explicitly listed.
- Allow Only: Restricts media embedding to the domains specified.
-
To include a domain, select Add to List. Add the domains that you want to allow or restrict by typing them in the provided field.
-
Verify the successful addition of domains in the Domains section.
-
Select Update to confirm changes. A notification confirms the successful update of portal information.
Updating and Deleting Domains
To edit a domain in Media Embedding:
- Select the Edit icon next to the domain requiring modification.
- Update the domain URL in the text input field or replace it with a new URL.
- Select the Check icon to save modifications.
- Select Update to proceed.
To delete an added domain:
- Select the Delete icon.
- Select Update to confirm changes.
Dimensions Configurations
User modifications to this configuration don't directly impact the player; these configurations are designed exclusively for defining default values in the player. During the generation of the media embed code, the values configured are automatically activated. Consequently, when the user embeds the media, these settings are enabled by default.
To apply media embedding configurations:
-
Select Player Display Options. Choose between Responsive or Fixed options.
- Responsive: Allows the player to adjust automatically with changes in the webpage size for a dynamic viewing experience.
- Fixed: Opt for this option to set player dimensions manually.
-
If the Fixed option is chosen, a dimension field appears. Enter the required dimensions to establish the default size or frame dimensions of the embedded media.
-
Configure Additional Embedded Settings (Optional) based on your preferences:
- Enable Autostart: Automatically starts the embedded media upon embedding.
- Muted: Mutes the embedded media by default.
- Enable Fullscreen: Allows the embedded media to open in fullscreen mode by default.
The following settings are only relevant if the media type is audio or video.
Enable the Embedding on the Media File
To embed code from the Media Manager:
- Go to Admin > Media Manager.
- In the Media Manager, select the specific media you want to embed.
- Select the overflow menu to reveal additional options.
- If you have previously chosen to enable the Allow embedding option in the portal, the embed option in the overflow menu is visible when embedding is enabled in the portal. If it is not visible, you can make the Embed option appear by selecting Settings from the overflow menu.
After accessing the Settings page, you see five tabs: Basic Settings, Publish, Access and Sharing, Custom Attributes, and Timed Data.
- Navigate to the Publish tab.
- Within the Other Options section, ensure that the Allow Embedding checkbox is selected. Furthermore, the option to allow users to view embedded code becomes accessible exclusively when the Allow Embedding feature is enabled.
- Select Save or Save and Close to save the settings.
The playback page and the Allow users to view Embed Code option are linked. If you turn off this option, users cannot see the embed code. Keep this in mind when deciding whether to show or hide the embed code on the playback page. The Allow embedding option lets you decide whether to permit or block the embedding of content. If enabled, users can view the embedded content when you've added it elsewhere. If disabled, users cannot see the embedded content even if it's been included elsewhere.
-
Access the overflow menu of your selected media and select Embed. The default setting for Manager+ users has this option enabled.
-
When you select the Embed option, you access the following settings for embedding your video:
- Embed Code: This field displays the Embed Code, which you can copy and use in external HTML-based applications and content management platforms like SharePoint, WordPress, Drupal, and others.
- Responsive: Select this option if you want to make your player responsive, meaning the player adjusts itself with the change in the web page size.
- Fixed: Select this option if you want to provide the player Dimensions yourself.
The Dimensions option is only visible if you have selected the Fixed option.
- Dimensions: Enter the required Dimensions for the video player to open as the default dimensions or frame size of the media to be embedded on the viewer's device.
- Single Sign-On: To configure Single Sign-On settings, select the Single Sign-On checkbox. If a media file is shared with an anonymous user, they are directed to a login screen. However, if the user is not anonymous, they can open the media file with their SSO login.
- Enable AutoStart: Select the Enable AutoStart option to enable the video playback as soon as the player is launched. Its functionality is dependent upon browser support for auto-start.
- Muted: Select the Muted option to enable muted video playback. You can use the player's volume control to unmute the video during playback.
- Start At: Using the Start At checkbox, you can set the point from which the playback starts. Leaving it unchecked or setting it to "0" starts the playback from the beginning of the video.
- Enable Fullscreen: This checkbox allows the player to automatically open in Fullscreen mode as soon as the video starts playing.
The Allow Embedding option and Allow Users to View Embed Code can also be activated during the media file upload process in the portal.
Embedding Media from Media Playback Page
You can also generate and copy embedded code from the Media Playback Page:
- Select the desired media, and it takes you to its dedicated Media Playback Page.
- On the Media Playback Page, select the overflow menu to reveal additional options.
- From the overflow menu, select the Embed option.
- The associated embed code for the specific media file displays, allowing users to customize dimensions by selecting preferred options. The embed code dynamically adjusts based on the chosen dimensions. Users can copy the media file's embed code and integrate it into their website.
VIDIZMO offers a versatile solution for embedding a diverse range of media types across web-based platforms with the added advantage of single sign-on (SSO) integration for enhanced security. Moreover, VIDIZMO empowers users with the flexibility to control content access by selectively preventing media embedding on designated domains.
